The longest resident at the Benton Franklin Humane Society in Kennewick, Washington, has been waiting 1309 days for an adopter to come her way. That’s over three and a half years! Kylie was surrendered due to a difficult pregnancy, and although her new rescue friends were able to save Kylie and all of her pups, the proud mama became a sad empty nester as each of her puppies was adopted, leaving her behind.

Although 6-year-old Kylie has remained playful and hopeful throughout her shelter stay, it’s no secret that she’s ready to blossom in a home of her very own. Could you or someone you know be her perfect match?

What a sweet girl! It’s hard to believe that she’s spent over three years at two different shelters, especially after surviving such a difficult pregnancy and C-section. She did a great job raising her puppies and waiting patiently as they got adopted, but what’s most impressive is that she’s maintained her happy-go-lucky spirit this entire time.

Grateful for a Gift

Animal adoption advocates like Julie Saraceno are eager to make things easier for loving rescue dogs like Kylie. On the Fourth of July, she visited the long-term shelter resident to bring her a gift: a special stuffed animal. It’s safe to say that her day was made. She had a blast showing off her new toy!

Shelter dogs like Kylie enjoy time in a fenced-in yard as often as staff and volunteers can provide, but adding a new enrichment item, even a small stuffed animal, can add so much. That’s why rescuers try to give adoptable dogs as much enrichment as possible! More recently, Kylie channeled her inner ‘Pawcasso’ with a limited edition lick painting, and it seemed like she loved this activity just as much as playing in the yard. Is there anything this girl doesn’t love? Probably not!

Kylie’s Kingdom

This floppy-eared gal may be content and grateful for the friends and fun she has at Benton-Franklin Humane Society, but that doesn’t mean all of her past is behind her. Although she’s healed emotionally from the huge changes in her recent life, she’s still on a special diet due to a prolapse that happened during her pregnancy. But as far as she knows, she’s eating like the queen she is!

Kylie will feel best as the only pet in the home, and she will thrive with a routine full of love and consistency. Her perfect home will have a tall and sturdy fenced-in yard, as this big girl can jump. As you may have guessed, she’s also quite strong, and at 60 pounds, this sweetheart can be strong, too. She’s a loving dog, but she needs the right owner who will let her decompress and thrive at her own rate. She might need a minute to feel at home, but once she does, she is going to be even happier than she already is!
